For the third Sub-Sonic Live, Subculture were extremely proud to welcome legendary guest curator Andrew Weatherall, bringing his club night A Love From Outer Space, for Live From Outer Space. Legend is a term that can be overused, but in the case of Mr Weatherall, the label is appropriate. The eccentric Londoner played a big part in moulding the UK's acid house scene in the late 1980s. He also produced one of the most pivotal albums of our generation in the form of Primal Scream's "Screamadelica" and over the year's turned his skills to remix and create some of the best dance tracks known to mankind.
Selecting the line up for this event, Andrew pulled together an eclectic collection of the finest DJ's and live acts for a night of unadulterated listening pleasure. Night Angles performed their brand of cosmic disco rock, enticing an already avidly excited crowd, followed by Warm Digits playing what Andrew describes as Krautadelia, sending a wave of rapturous energy throughout the main room.
Joining Andrew was his Love From Outer Space cadet, Sean Johnston (Hardway Bros), with charismatic Scottish deck terrors OPTIMO completely filling the Legends Room with out and out relentless vivacity. Meanwhile, downstairs in the Discovery room, Andrew's East London Basement Recording Studio partners in crime, Tim J. Fairplay and Scott Fraser set a chilled out vibe with a diverse body of music.
It was the main event that really was the pinnacle of the evening. Andrew Weatherall took centre stage, seducing the crowd with bass heavy beats, effortlessly flowing through tracks, keeping momentum and the audience transfixed to his every move. This was a night that was highly anticipated, and still managed to deliver far more than anyone could have expected. If only we could hit the repeat button and do it all over again.
