The Hush Now, who draw comparisons to bands such as Built to Spill, The Ocean Blue and Apples in Stereo, began recording the follow-up to their critically praised debut last August in Boston. Of the debut, Americana UK raved, "Produced wonderfully (by David Newton of Mighty Lemon Drops), with a snappy bite and powerful clarity, this debut is deserving of some rabid, adoring attention. "The Hush Now" is clearly a triumph of an album." Expectations were high for the second album as The Hush Now debut was charting in the US and getting spins on BBC 6 by Steve Lemacq before the band had even played their first gig. And recording got off to a rocky start as the band recovered at a local pub from a flood that put the studio under a foot of water on the first day of recording.
However, The Hush Now persevered and the resulting album, Constellations, also helmed by Dave Newton, is slated for a UK release in late 2009. The first single Hoping and Waiting reveals a band that thoroughly enjoys making and playing their brand of music and boasts Mr. Newton lending a hand on guitars, Noel Kelly's brother singing opera and brother-in-law on baroque trumpet. Charging out of the gate with Cure-esque driving percussion and guitars supporting floating vocals, Hoping and Waiting releases into an anthemic chorus where Kelly longs, "...hoping and waiting you'll come along."
