Biography
A child of music, Naja Rosa was born into a family of many songs and stories. Her mother and father, Annisette and Thomas Koppel, lead members and founders of the legendary rock group "The Savage Rose" took her on the road before she even landed on this planet earth. Growing up in the south harbor of Copenhagen, Naja was singing and writing songs from an early age and went on to sing background vocals in her parents group for almost a decade. She's traveled from the grand nature in Greenland, to huge stages and festivals, gone through Europe in an old van performing on little squares and passed around the hat for money so they could sleep in a hotel room for the night, instead of in the back of the van. As a part of the "The Savage Rose" she also landed two of her own compositions on their 2008 Danish Music Award-nominated release, "Universal Daughter" and wrapped a European Tour with the band in the fall of 2008. She has experienced more than many in her 28 years and has lived everywhere from Denmark, to Los Angeles, Puerto Rico and New York.
This year Naja Rosa released her first solo album. All the songs on the album are written and composed by her, recorded with a band of great musicians in a little analog Copenhagen studio, and mixed by the renowned Bryce Goggin (Phish, Pavement, Nada Surf, JAPW a.o) in his Trout studio in Brooklyn, NY. The sound may be reminiscent of the beatnik/rock and blues music of the 1960-70s, and even the 50s. But is also something new under the sun, fresh and full of Najas stories from her life.. Similar to the moody sound of a Tarantino soundtrack, her vocals are deep, soulful and pure. Full of life, and often with a wink of humor. these strong, melodic songs can take you from a rockin' and rollin' crazy Saturday night to a bluesy Sunday. Naja is also a very talented photographer and has published a book in Scandinavia displaying her photography and stories from her travels around the world with her family and music. As she's always full of new ideas and wanting to experience the most, you will invariably find new and interesting sides to her story. And music. Enjoy the journey.
