May 7th sees the worldwide release of the debut album from Denmark’s Giana Factory. ‘Save the Youth’ is a beautifully dark and melodic album packed with ice-cold synths and hypnotic vocals. This is not, however, an album of doom and gloom, with tracks such as ‘Rainbow Girl’ and ‘Mountain’ showing a great deal of light and colour shining through the minimal, electronic sound.
Giana Factory - Loui Foo (vocals, drum pads), Sofie Johanne (bass, synth) and Lisbet Fritze (guitar) - have been combining gloomy synths, crisp drum pads, atmospheric guitars and sparklingly fresh melodies to create their own unique brand of dark pop since 2008.
They released their debut EP ‘Bloody Game’ in 2009 and performed their first show to a sold out Copenhagen crowd supporting Glasvegas. Before Giana Factory had performed live together, Lisbet and Loui were touring Europe with The Raveonettes, standing in for Sharin who was on maternity leave. They caught the eye of Glasvegas’ James Allan who asked if they had their own band and if they’d be up for supporting them on the first show of their European tour. The girls did not want to turn down such an offer and two weeks later Giana Factory played their first show to a sold out Glasvegas crowd.
Last year, Giana Factory asked a selection of musical friends that they had met whilst on the road, to remake their favourite tracks from ‘Save The Youth’. This resulted in a monthly 7” vinyl series featuring the original tracks alongside interpretations from Glasvegas, Trentmøller, Autloux and VETO.
‘Save The Youth’ will be available worldwide as a limited bonus CD edition. This includes ‘Save The Youth’ alongside the first EP, all of the 7” remakes and unreleased studio outtakes.
