Shank – DVD release
July 2010
Set in an urban, distopian 2015 “Shank” is the latest film from director Mo Ali. After a limited cinema release earlier in the year, “Shank” now comes to DVD, released on July 26.
Of his film Mo Ali says, “SHANK takes a satirical look at what life could be like if the government continue to ignore the issues affecting young people today, forcing the next generation to live in a concrete jungle with no real hope. It also shows young people in a different light, just because a kid is in a gang and wearing a hoodie it does not automatically mean he is violent and will “SHANK” you.”
With Mo Ali’s background, directing urban music videos, it’s not surprising that the film has a hefty UK hip hop/grimecore soundtrack.
UK hip hop artist Ashley ‘Bashy’ Thomas, stars in his first acting role, and provides a song for the soundtrack, having previously worked as music supervisor on “Adulthood”. The film also stars actor, Adam Deacon, known for his role in “Kidulthood” and “Adulhood”, Michael Socha who previously appeared in Shane Meadows’ “This is England’ and “Skins” starlett Kaya Scodelario.
