The Sword – Warp Riders
July 2010
Would you like to hear the tale of Ereth, an archer banished from his tribe on the planet Acheron? A planet trapped in a tidal lock, causing one side to be scorched by three suns, and the other enshrouded in perpetual darkness. Of Course you do, right?
Well, this is the story that forms the backdrop of The Sword’s new concept album “Warp Riders” out 24 August 2010. Sounding a bit like Wolfmother, if Wolfmother grew a pair and stopped making music for mobile phone adverts, The Sword have been described as “metal revivalists”, simultaneously managing to charm devout metalheads (they even played with Ozzy Osbourne at the iTunes Music Festival, at the Roundhouse, earlier this month) and Hoxtonites, who can’t work out whether it’s cool or not, and think Black Sabbath is a brand of t-shirts.
Joking aside The Sword make some deceptively sophisticated music and are sure to enjoy attention, alongside other lauded, now marketable, metal peers such as Sunn0)), with the music press scouring the landscape for something other than Landfill indie, to fill their columns.
