Chapter Sweetheart
May 2010
Despite emerging from the excruciatingly hip and self-regarding East London scene, Chapter Sweetheart are a cut above their posier peers. Professing a love of both '80s American hardcore punk and 1960s soul, their actual sound draws from both to create a feeling not unlike that of running down a hill fast and not knowing if you'll be able to stop. It's breathless stuff, delivered in a winningly earnest way that suggest that the lyrics, if they were completely audible, would be about very serious things indeed. So far there's a self-released CD-R and a couple of compilation appearances knocking about, but with juicy support slots with art-rock heroes like James Chance and Chain And The Gang already secured, the quintet look set to do more this year. Check out their total demolition of The Temptations' "My Girl" below. God knows what dear old Smokey Robinson would've made of it.
