The Age of Understatement
May 2008
The Last Shadow Puppets - Alex Turner of Artic Monkeys and Miles Kane, front man of The Rascals (see featured band), release their single "The Age of Understatement" amid a flurry of industry and fan base speculation this week.
The well publicised single release, includes cover versions of tracks by David Bowie and Billy Fury as B-sides, with the duo listing early Bowie and Scott Walker as influences upon the project. A distinctly different sound to both the Arctic Monkeys and the Rascals, suggests that the collaborators have made good use of their historic references. Together with producer James Ford, they have recorded an ambitious track, which sounds as thought it could have been conceived in another age, avoiding the trap of recording an overproduced indie super-anthem. Members of the London Metropolitan Orchestra will join the band on "Later with Jools Holland" on 15th and 18th of April, hinting at further use of a Walker-esque symphonic presentation. The eagerly awaited album "The Age of Understatement" will be released on the 21st of April, on Domino Records.
