Klaxons – New Video – Huge tour!

You’ve probably already seen this very cinematic video of, Klaxons, playing in the sands of the Egyptian desert, but given our international remit to spread the love of such things, we thought we’d take the opportunity to post the dates of their enormous looking international tour.

“Echoes” (out 16 August) is taken from their long awaited conceptual sci-fi epic of a second album “Surfing The Void” (out 23 August).

Now here are those dates:

Is this the new face of British soul?

Liam Bailey could, quite possibly, be just that. Male artists have, arguably, been a little underrepresented in the genre of late, with sultry females presenting a more marketable package. But when Amy Winehouse producer Salaam Remi came across Liam, he put his vacation plans on hold and decided to produce his forthcoming album.

Dead Confederate - Giving it All Away

“Giving It All Away” is taken from Dead Confederate’s second album “Sugar”. The song is a collaboration with J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. fame, and hints at a more polished direction for the band, developing on the powerful, emotive, driven style, heard on their critically acclaimed debut album “Wrecking Ball”.

Bassist Brantley Senn says: “I had almost written that song for Dinosaur Jr. It’s about appreciation and understanding for fellow musicians; the struggles that are the ties that bind musicians together”.

Unsigned band alert! – hermes

hermes are three fresh faced teenagers from Cirencester, who got together to form in 2009 before quickly getting down to the business of recording demos and practising their “Baroque Punk Pop” in bedrooms, kitchens and garages.

A break came when a mutual friend passed on a demo to producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals, Catatonia and Bullet For My Valentine) who offered his services. The result is an accomplished debut, in the form of double A side, “No Age For Saints”/”Jack”, released 16 August 2010.

What’s more we’re giving you the chance to download “Jack”, for free, here (Right click, Save file/link as). Get it now before the labels snap them up!

The Charlatans – single, album, video and tour!

“Who We Touch” will be the 11th studio album from indie legends The Charlatans, due for release on 6 September. Described by Tim Burgess as, “a soulful voyage”, the album promises to be a broad, yet harmonious, collection of songs. Some early reviews make comparisons to mid 70s Brian Eno, with other tracks, including lead single “Love Is Ending”, being described as ‘The Charlatans do surf’.

“Love is Ending”, out 2 August, also boasts a video, directed by another member of the indie aristocracy, The Jesus & Mary Chain’s Douglas Hart. Featuring ballet dancer and choreographer Aisling Cook, the video is a simple, energetic yet stylish affair. There will also be a remix by The Horrors, which will be exclusively available through iTunes.

Jarvis Cocker and Tony Christie rework a classic

Ah, the Trinity Square Shopping Centre and Multistorey Car Park in Gateshead will be sorely missed, but this might cheer up its mourners. Although it might seem an odd collection of names Jarvis Cocker and Tony Christie are to cover Roy Budd’s theme to 1971’s brutal, Michael Caine Brit flick, “Get Carter”, for inclusion on Tony Christie’s new album on Eddie Piller’s Acid Jazz label.

The Suzukis - Reasons For Leaving

Ooh this one’s got a scary video. Like some mod’s tea party gone all wrong and ultraviolent. It’s a great track though, neatly demonstrating The Suzukis’ loud approach to punk orientated, angry, laddish, indie rock. “Reasons For Leaving” is the second single taken from their debut album, planned for release later this year.

Scoundrels – Hangman’s Lament

Ahh, the heart warming story of an English boy who posted a demo off to a record company in the states, got heard, got flown over to the states to record an album with a big time producer, and starred in a film, before bringing flying back home to show it off to his friends.

No, not the latest Tom Hanks, Americana driven, family orientated feel good movie, but the story of Ned Wyndham and his band Scoundrels, who ended up recording their debut album with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Manic Street Preachers, Jarvis Cocker etc.), deep in the swamps of Louisiana, and signed to Sire Records.
