Various Cruelties
Biography
Named after an Ed Ruscha painting of the same name - the Talking Heads famously used the image for the cover of their Sand in the Vaseline compilation - Various Cruelties is based around Liam O'Donnell.
Born in London to Scottish father and an Irish mother (a distant relative of Oscar Wilde) he spent his youth singing at Leeds blues parties and squat run pirate radio stations where he discovered the Clash, The Specials, Etta James, Devendra Banheart and Otis Redding.
Playing live since December 2010 they have spent this time playing shows alongside Villagers, The Vaccines, Mumford’s Communion Night, Funeral Party, Fixers and Tribes.
Reviews
This is a great way to start our affiliation with Various Cruelties. The lead single is catchy enough, and clocking in at just over two and a half minutes, is a brief enough to leave you wanting a lot more. The summer is just about the right time for this song to drop, and I have a feeling that this year is going to need a band as good as this.
