Lewis Watson
Biography
How do you get over two million YouTube views and a rapidly growing online following from singing and playing the guitar?
Lewis Watson is definitely making an impression. is it his open, relaxed personality? his confident performance style? or is it his touching voice and self-assured songwriting? whatever the reasons, it is clearly working for the focused 19-year old.
Lewis began performing live in may 2011, notching up numerous performances around the UK, including two A64s on SB.TV, a channel renowned for spotting new talent, as well plays on MTV, AKA and 1Xtra.
In this short time, the nods of approval and collaborations requests have come in from heavy-weight artists such as ed sheeran, wiley, charlie simpson, scrufizzer and aggro santos. indeed, ed sheeran said, "i love seeing what you are doing. you're smashing it!"
Lewis then began performing live as often as he could, with requests soon coming in from across the UK. as an independent artist, lewis released two videos in 2011, starting with his #3 and then featuring on let go (krept & konan collaboration).
His first EP 'it's got 4 sad songs on it btw' will be released in april, "i enjoy music that i can relate to, and i hope that people can connect with my songs. not necessarily the situation, but perhaps the sentiment. if i've done that, i will feel like i have succeeded as a songwriter." what about today is the emotionally-charged opening track with lewis asking "well you loved me last night, but what about today?" next is windows a gentle song about waiting for someone no matter what. bones is the first single from the EP and track 3. lewis explains, "it's about being with someone new, and that feeling of wanting to do everything with them. i really wanted to write a song with the word bones in it, i hope people think it has worked." the closing track nothing shows lewis again at his most intimate, describing the feeling of being without that someone special.
With new material and covers being added to his YouTube channel on an almost weekly basis, there is plenty for lewis' fans to enjoy. "i'm really excited about releasing the EP and new material, as well as some other announcements coming soon in 2012!"
